Kerry Hughes
Tutor for our Home Learning College Finanical Administration Course |
Who would have thought that being a student at Home Learning College would lead to a job as a tutor? That is exactly what happened to Kerry Hughes.
Kerry left school at 17 after completing A' Levels and deciding to earn instead of learn. Worried by student debt, she chose to start working, but after a few years envied students who were working towards a dream career – something she was missing.
After seeing an advert for Home Learning College that offered convenient monthly payments and the possibility to study around work commitments, Kerry signed up to complete a Sage Book-keeping course. Just a few months after qualifying, Kerry became a tutor and began working with Home Learning College, hoping to help future students and offer the same support that helped her so much during the course.
Kerry now tutors the Certificate in Financial Administration and a new course in Customer Relations as well as being a support Sage tutor – a job that she finds challenging and interesting.
Kerry comments: "I love the feedback I get from students as I really enjoy encouraging them to achieve their full potential and give them confidence to go for the job of their dreams. Doing this job is great and I have opportunities to learn more and encourage and help others do the same."
Kerry's advice to new students is to study in short bursts as you retain more information in the first couple of hours. Also, Kerry is a great fan of highlighting important and relevant points so that revising is easier. She certainly finds that being a tutor after being a student means she can relate to the questions that come up and reassure students whenever they are struggling.
Kerry says: "If anyone is thinking of becoming a tutor as I did, then the most important qualities are to have a lot of patience, be a great people person and to be willing to help others achieve their goals in any way you can. There is such a satisfying sense of achievement when my students pass their exams.
